2 The Markets in Fixed-Interest Securities (Renten) and Shares

It has been pointed out above that the role played by the securities' markets in the flow of funds is essentially less in the Federal Republic than in other countries. However, because of the rise in public sector borrowing in recent years, the market for securities bearing a fixed rate of interest (“the market for fixed-interest securities and bonds”) has expanded considerably, and its volume is now clearly greater than that of the share market. This development is shown in the following table 4.4 of stock exchange dealings in such securities (in Mill. DM).
